Please...Don't Tell ME Your Secrets!

Posted on April 4, 2005 in CopywritingMarketingSales

Secrets.  We all have a few of them.  Marketers seem to have more than most other people.

Well, I really don’t want to hear them.  It isn’t a secret if you are going to blast it to your e-mail list and tell the world!  It also isn’t a secret if you are going to sell it for a buck.  There’s nothing wrong with making a buck but please don’t tell me I should fork over my bucks for your ‘secrets’.

The tired and lazy, “101 Secrets to a...” is just plain stupid to any thinking prospect.

While I understand what the marketer is attempting with the use of ‘secrets’, isn’t a bit outdated when you can research a topic on Google and get hundreds of thousands of pages?

Are there really any secrets anymore?  And, if there are, why is everyone selling them?
